IDI to PS swap?

OK so this is the IDI section but I have a chance to buy a 96 PS e350 that has damage from kissing a center divide.

320k on it but new trans. 2wd.

I've also seen a clean 89 f450 with a bad IDI for sale. I know there is wiring involved but I have little experience working on a PS.

4 days ago I saw a first Gen super duty rollback truck at a shop. He started it up and I instantly knew it was a PS. Didn't ask him about it. Made me think....

Anything is possible with enough effort, time and money. 320K on a PowerStroke would be a little too high mileage in my mind to use in the type of swap you are talking about.

That being said, I haven't done a PS swap, so someone with more knowledge than myself will be along shortly to answer your question.

I think my main issue is what needs to be wired into the truck. Swapping over physically isn't a issue. Im not sure if that trans needs a VSS from the axle via tone ring.

Wiring night mare not sure I would do it unless it was a swap into a cabrolet or somthing that would hve lots of use. Not just for a work truck.

X2 I'm not a Ford guy but have owned a 99 7.3 and that would be easiest in a 93 or 94 with similar interiors, that way just swap all interior harnesses and BS with the engine and tranny.

Just like a Dmax into a 90's chevy, doable of course but a full interior swap is easiest.

Go on Autozone web site, put in each truck, then go to the Repair info section, in that section is wireing diagrams, select the trucks, then print out the circuits for each truck, compare them, that will tell you what you would have to do.

I think ill just part the van out. I really don't like the idea of big $$$ for maintenance items compared to IDI engines.

If you want to swap I would lean toward a medium duty powerstroke where all the brains are mounted on the valve cover.

I just cant believe that someone would want to "upgrade" an IDI to a powerstroke ... the PS are maintenance nightmares ... the cost of Injectors is outrageous .. Why dont you put in a low maintenance engine ... like a cummins ... 12V .... they go 4-500k and then only need a pump and injectors ... then they go another 4-500K ... its a no brainer ... a PS with 320 on the clock is pretty much used up as it is ... why go through all the work to install an engine that is going to be a headacche from day one .... I will sell you a '98 12V with only 77858 on it and it will run you forever ... I'll take $3000 for it

If I were to do a swap like that I would do it with a pickup for parts rather than a van.
