Keep in mind banks doesn't make parts for this anymore, I read that on this forum. Hypermax pulse turbocharger is My favorite, best price and works like a charm.
As i.m trying to get my @#$%&^@*! ATS slip fit downpipe off right now so I can get my tranny out to replace my flywheel,I can attest that if you are shopping for a turbo system, do yourself a favour and get a Hypermax. Better customer service, easier to get on and off and better parts availability
Hypemax is an non-waste gated style turbo. ATS has a wastegate. ATS spools a little quicker but Hypermax keeps the egts in check. Really it is all preference but I like my ATS turbo! But I'm sure the Hypermax turbo is decent. Also Banks still sell their kits I believe but if the turbo goes down you will have a hard time finding parts.
Correction, SOME ATS's are wastegated.
the 085 and 088 are non-wastegated, the 093, which was also the factory turbo from Ford in 93-94, is wastegated, as well as the newer Aurora 2000.
The hypermax in non wastegated and uses a similar garret turbo as the o88 ats turbo that I have which will give you plenty of power . Only advantage to a wastegated system is if you plan or racing the thing at stoplights. For normal uses of a diesel, i.e. pulling heavy loads, a non wastegated system does the trick , and unlike ATS where your phone call gets the run around and the blame game, a phone call to Hypermaxx gets REAL HELP! ( what a novel concept ) I went to order one of their cowl induction setups and they were so helpful and friendly and the fact that my truck was one year, engine another and my turbo made by a competitor, did not bother them in the least, I got the help I needed and the part I needed, and boy, that thing works nice
I will be using a Banks on mine. But that is only cause I'm into it so cheap and I literally got everything. But I'm also having the turbo rebuilt by Russ . So I'm not to worried about Banks supporting it anymore.
My bad I meant that the new ATS systems were wastegated. But really any of the three turbos you get, you will get decent performance. Its just depends on the price for the performance gains.
