This information I have from someone whom I like to receive advice, go to a battery dealer and ask for the group 31 blem's intersate batteries (there are also other brands that sell the blem's as well) . They cost much less and they are just as good.

i don't think they are very easy to come by - i called a dealer and he said they don't have any.

Just as a coincidence, The November 2008 Consumer Report did extensive testing and ratings of auto batteries. They tested 5 different groups sizes. In every size the Everstart battery, sold by walmart, rated even or ahead of the Interstate batteries, for less cost.

For cold rated climates, Kirkland and Everstart were rated best buys. For moderate climates, best buys were Everstart and Autocraft.

How many copies of Consumer Reports do you think Walmart sells a month?

I haven't trusted them since they printed that the Commodore 64 has an internal speaker.

i think the issue is that consumer reports just tests them according to their system - but do they hold on to them for a year or so and start a truck with them? when they are new they probably work just fine, but it seems that over a relatively short time they lose their cranking ability - and i had the same thing happen with my duralast golds, which would not start my van in the summer sometimes due to the heat. And they are only two years old.

Consumer Reports is to consumer testing what Al Gore is to the environment. FULL OF #%$*.

I recall one time where they insulted a Ford product for a certain feature that they didn't like, and then praised Toyota for using the same feature.

I have replaced three walmart deep cycle/starting batteries in my boat in the past three years. They typically take a poo poo through the winter then won't hold a charge in the spring. I even kept a maintainance trickle charger on them in the past with no luck in the spring.

Everstart Wally world batteries are made by Johnson Controls Which makes the majority of all name brand and store brand batteries in North America.

Of course while this topic is kicking around...... I'm either having battery issues or starter issues... again. When I hop in the truck and switch my GP's on.... it drops the voltmeter down to almost nill.... like 8 volts.....and upon shutting them off it only comes back to approx. 10 volts. When the batteries are unhooked they both read around 12 or 13 volts, normal. Also, I have to cycle the GP's twice for about 10 seconds to start the truck in 45 degree weather. Does that sound reasonable? It usually starts after that, but I feel like it should crank faster, and not work so dang hard. What's ya'lls opinion?

Might want to actually read the article, and especially their testing procedures, which were those established by the Society of Automotive Engineers. I doubt that the number of magazines sold had anything to do with the testing, if you really know the history of Consumer Reports.

Their testing does match my real life experiences with these batteries over the last 8 years, with many vehicles.

check your cables to make sure you don't have corrosion in them. imho, you electrical is providing too much internal resistance.

Sounds like you need to have the batteries load tested. Any shop should be able to do it for you, they just connect a unit to each battery that reads voltage when a load is applied. Make sure the batteries are disconnected before testing. If they are connected you will only get the average reading of both batteries which doesn't tell you anything. The starter doesn't like running on low voltage so you should probably get them checked soon.

I've bought easily over 20 of those 1000amp everstarts from wally world for use in the fleet and only had two ever fail before three years. And they traded for me save the 5or so bucks the price has gone up.

Also after I left my lights on down at Sheppard AFB, I took the dead battery in without a receipt and the girl traded me out for one no price jump. Can't see me buyin' any other battery ever.
