I was just reading a TECH article about converting to hydroboost brakes and had an epiphany.

Has anyone considered using an electric hydraulic pump and reservoir to supply the hydroboost ??

I am meaning one that will shove a dump-hoist up in seconds, not some little toy.

Thus, the power-steering could remain un-molested.

And, were either system to fail, both would not be lost.


Will it work or no ??

Yea, that's the kind of booster I was REALLY wanting to have. With those, if you have a stall out, you aren't limited to the 2 to 3 stops that the little accumulator will provide, that little electric motor will grind away until the batteries give out. COuld come in handy if you were in a bad spot. I know where there are bunches of the things, but I never could get any information on if they would work in our trucks or not

Actually for non stock, that aftermarket place in CA that Gary has the link to has full electric hydroboost MC units that are fully self contained if I'm not mistaken

I guess that explains what that little PARK BRAKE button is doing when you pull out the button, hear a little motor buzzing under there somewhere, and it locks the brakes.

The next one of those Fords that is in the shop I am gonna give a closer examination.



So I guess my idea was not so far out in left field after all.

How about the hydraulic units on motor homes that power the leveling jacks, they also have the power units for hydraulic brakes. I think school busses also have them. Next time I'm in Elkhart IN I'll check the salvage places for them.

Should be easy to do with a pressure switch on the MC to control the Hyd. unit.
