Hey since this area is here.... maybe some of you may be able to help....

I have a 98 explorer for the wife to drive around... it has the 5.0l V-8.... the problem is that it gets like 9.5mpg.... This thing sucks fuel like its 460 big block.

I just changed the plugs and filter about 3000 miles ago and am getting ready to change the oil & air filter again...

anyone have any ideas why this thing sucks so much gas.... ??

Ya need to get that Explorer hooked up to a scan tool and look at some fuel trims and other data and see whats going on.

I see some problems with Mass Airflow Sensors and Oxygen Senors on those vehickes.

Is the check engine light on?

D_C I am sure everyone here thanks you for your wealth of knowledge you answered a bunch of nothing



Anyways you might make sure your tires are all aired properly and that you don't have a brake dragging .One other thiung are they the right size tires for the vehicle bigger tires on a gas will really kill the mpg

Gas motors are ok, I love my 302 and 351HO. Even that 4.6L (281cuin) hauls major ***.
