Yes...those are very very easy...rivets....

Take a hammer and punch...hammer the "PIN" like part sticking out flush with rivet head...then use punch to drive it through the rivet...

Next a drill and bit...I usually use a very sharp bit 3/8 and just drill the head off the rivet and punch the remaining portion through the door....

slow and easy on the rivet head till it pops off...if it spins...angle the drill and let it spin but keep drilling carefully not going through the bracket or door...just want to pop the head off...

replace with bolts when reassembling...and yer done!

Done litterally hundreds like this with NOT a problem!

they had to make it hard...

sounds good, thanks
Its actually quite simple...though when I hammer the centre pins in I have at times had to hammer quite HARD...BFH helps..or a small hammer really fast smacks....but once that's done it's all easy...was faster for them when building and cost less than bolts n nuts...

On a side note, I have also used a good sharp chisel to cut them off once the pin is pounded through...usually a sharp wood chisel...either way works...drill is best IMHO

It's all about ease/quickness of assembly at the factory (plus, the rivets don't ever loosen up and rattle like screws and bolts can).

GM FWD vehicles starting in the mid-80s had most of the crap inside the door pop-riveted in, including the window regulators! It is a pain the first time you see it.

You HAVE to punch out that steel center pin first - forget about trying to drill it with that pin in there. And as said, use a sharp drill bit. Clean out all of the loose bits from inside the door when you are done.

tell that to the idiot who decided to use rivets in the truck frames...they are known for coming loose and ive seen quite a few TSB's telling the repair man to cut out the rivets and replace with bolts...
