how accurate are digital pyrometers?

im looking at buying this pyro. wondering if they are as accurate as a manual gauge. thanks!

That will play hell with your eyes, should be alright for accuracy, but will probably lag a bit, and have you tried to read a digital gauge while it's moving, such as a digital speedo or tach?

no i havnt just thought it would be cool. guess ill stick to the old style mechanical guages.

Hard to read when the numbers are climbing fast. A needle can get ya close at a glance.

i agree with all the post. it would be hard to read when the numbers are going up fast. i rode my friends motorcycle and it has a digital speedo and it was hard to read

I've been thinking about a digital one also. To those who have a pyro: would the temp on a N/A engine actually climb quick enough to make a digi unusable? I rarely tow and there's like 3 hills here.

I have a water temp, oil pressure, voltage in digital and never had a problem reading any of them. If I find a pyro and boost gauge that matches, I'll be installing them as well. Just want a quality gauge, mine are VDO and seem to be pretty good after 5 years or so.

i have a digital pyro and mechanical oil temp and boost. crazy right. but i rode in a guys dmax with a digital pyro/boost gauge and i thought it was cool so I got one. I think its easy to look at.

I would think a digital would have an advantage over a mechanical. Who cares how fast the numbers climb, ya don't watch it that close anyhow, it's the top end that your interested in and at nite it would be easier to see. If you get it, just don't cut the wire to length, they are calibrated to the resistance of the wire length. As far as accuracy goes, it's where the probe is placed, in the exhaust manifold at #8 cyl. is best.

A digital will give you degree by degree readout, whereas a mechanical you are kind of guessing where the needle is.

thanks. is that guage worth a ****? everyone here says dont go cheap on a pyro thats why i was looking at autometer stuff. if that ones any good then ill buy it.

they are very easy to read.not ******* the eyes at all.
mine do not lag at all.very fast and accurate real time gauges.
some of the comments here about them are from people who don't have them im guessing because their results sure do not match mine.
