With how often we have the occasional thread with someone stating what their temp might be at a certain letter is on the gauge or at the same time what the oil pressure might be at letter "N" versus "R" in normal so I took a video of my hilarious factory gauges doing weird stuff

https://youtu.be/07x3NNi68eI

My oil pressure sender is tee'd with the factory sender and it's always done this. Sometimes it doesn't move when cruising at 65, sometimes it does, sometimes it barely is past the red, sometimes it's at the "R" but if you notice on my real oil pressure gauge down at the bottom I'm always right at about 37-40 ish range when flying down the highway. Factory gauge represents nothing except >7, the changes as you drive and rev it don't even mean a thing.

And if you caught my water temp gauge, my factory gauge never makes it to the n in normal and yet it does "work" and move while the engine gets hotter. Some peoples might be at "R" or "M" when at operating temps (my 150 does that exactly and yet after market gauge on it is right at 195). My real gauge in the idi will read 185 flying down the highway because of where the sender is in the overtemp port which is really probably right at 192 after messing with an IR temp gun.

The factory gauges may have a purpose, but using them to try and diagnose basically anything for preventative maintenance could waste you a lot of time and money and cause some frustration. If I didn't know better from the video and not knowing about the gauge I'd say I have some weird oil pressure issue but yeah.. I don't haha.
