I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction

When I bought the truck, you could smell a strong odor of diesel around the engine compartment. One of my mechanic friends located a leaking olive(?) on a fuel line and replaced it, solving the problem. The smell came back every now and then and one day looking at the engine, I saw that one of my return lines was leaking around the injector so I replaced the o rings and the leak stopped so i thought all was good.
The last couple of days, driving down the road I have no smell and there does not appear to be any fuel smell outside the truck but when I am driving and come to a stop. I get a HUGE odor of diesel fuel coming into the A/C vents. I have no idea where to look.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Fletcher

Could be many places. I would check every single injector and see if area is wet with fuel. Inspect all metal fuel lines. I would also recheck the return lines. It would be a better idea to just go ahead and install a fresh return line kit IMO. IP could be leaking and also check the lift pump on lower side of engine (passenger side).
If you can't find leak and engine is real dirty, clean engine off with engine degreasor and low pressure water when engine is COLD. This will give you the ability to pinpoint leak better.

Try the fuel filter drain line. The drain valve may be open slightly and draining the fuel down the right side of the engine out of sight. If the top of your lift pump is wet, good chance it's that. Cheapest fix of the bunch suggested, just tighten the drain valve.

my first thought is you have not owned the truck long nor are you awere of its maintance if i were you i would buy a complete injector line kit with all o rings just because you will be chasing your tail all the way around my guess is it sat for some time and now its being used and the dried rubber is not sealing russ i believe and mel have the whole kit with new clamps for a rather good price i wanna say its less than 80 bucks

I do not see any areas that are wet with fuel. Is there anything in the area of the back of the motor that might be leaking that I just cannot see? I see no leaks on any of the return lines or the injector lines

Back by the glow plug relay is one more olive that could've been over looked. It's kind of behind the air cleaner behind the manifold towards the drivers side.
