Has power but wont turn over won't cycle GP

Just picked up another IDI. the truck wasn't running when I got it on a trade but with all of the extras it has it really wasn't a issue at the time. The problem I'm having is at first I had no power from the switch but I after troubleshooting I found the switch on the steering column under the dash had been connected incorrectly. After fixing that I got power where my gauges would come on but my GP would not cycle and the truck would not turn over at all. Now I only have ONE battery but I was using a Big Bat charger to help. If I bump the solinoid on the fender the truck will turn over and I do get smoke from the exhaust. The engine looks fairly new, the previous owner said it was a crate 6.9 but it has the newer style GP controler like my other 7.3 has. I tried a little either to see if that would do anything and all it did was make it turn over a littel faster for a split second. There is fuel coming out of the Pump. I've blead all the lines. I'm not sure if it's bad electrical I've downloaded schematics to try and make sense of it, but any help would be appreciated. I do plan on installing a GPC Bypass and a push button start. I'm also going to check the fuel shut off switch but not exactly sure how, but there is smoke coming from the exhaust (white). Thank, I know its a lot

Here's how you check the FSS. Just run a little jumper lead of positive power from the batteries and touch it to the forward most connector on the IP. If it clicks it's working.
You really need two batteries. I know when I've got two batteries and they are low in charge they'll do the same thing. Have you tested that one battery for how much load it will take? GP's and starter are gonna take about all the CCA's that thing has plus some with it only being one battery. If that battery is cooked you'll never get it going.

I would stick with the solid state GP controller, it usually safer than a push button.

X2 on Shauns input. These things NEED RPM's to start. Bum batteries, cables, or starter will cause no start.

Thanks for the input, I won't get to it today other prioritys but i'm going to try and tackle it in the morning when I get off of work. Yeah I work nigts.
