I made my own battery plate, thicker and stronger... definitely overkill but I might go do it all again to hold dual batteries . I did reuse the old support arm too

tell my 85 6.9 that,,diff brands,,diff years,,aint started in a year[no elec draw]and it popped right off!!!!

Tell that to my 91' 7.3L... Replaced the driver's side battery that was about shot and my other battery tanked in less than a week. I can honestly say I've never seen a battery swell up like a watermelon before.

You can also tell that to my 69' JD3020 Diesel farm tractor. Same deal, replaced one and the other tanked about a week later.

Sounds like either you got lucky or the rest of us have terrible luck with batteries.

Save yourself the headache, replace in pairs. I learned my lesson...twice.

The studs poke up into the recess in the hood, there's plenty of room. I got a couple of those big truck rubber mudflap extension tops and strapped them over the tops of the batts just in case a real big bump causes contact, it won't hurt anything

FWIW another thing that might work is a set of marine battery terminal protectors like these...although I don't know for sure how effective they'd be on OBS trucks. I have a similar set of terminal protectors (these, meant to go over adapters from lugs to studs) for now, since I'm still running lug-top batteries. As soon as these fail, I plan to switch to Group 31 stud-top batteries...my cables are already set up for it

I cut the lip as Gary said...cut it and bended it down...works great. i also did the ole hillbilly thing and strapped it down with a bungee cord.

Has anyone ever moved the batteries to the bed or something like that, kinda like hot rods when they move the batts to the trunk.
Or does the longer batt cable offer to much resistance for the amount of amps going through??

You can relocate batteries wherever you like, but you will need to have the cables sized for the distance from the starter. Any where like a welding shop or electrical supply would be able to get the sizing figured out for you.

I seem to remember a member on here relocating his to the toolbox in his bed and he used welding cable.

not sure i would want them in the bad but a few have mounted them out of the way on the frame rails.
