got to the 2000 mile mark tonight

passed my 2000 mile mark on my truck (what I've put on it since I got it) tonight

coupla questions

1) my truck was heating up funny all day, it was about 40* outside, and I'd randomly run warm (just driving straight unloaded at 40 mph), and I'd start running warm, normally it sits between the N and O, and it would hit the high side of the R tonight for a few minutes and then all of a sudden it would drop down to its usual position , any ideas?? (coolant level is fine)

2) what's normal oil consumption for everyone? I've used about 1/2 of a crosshatch on the dipstick in 2000 miles......

sounds like u may have sticky thermostat.... i use about 1qt per 5000mi or per oil change

Was there any hills involved? If so then maybe your fan clutch is hinky.

I just passed the 10k mark with mine. I'm adding about 2 quarts every 5k miles, but I also have some leakage so it's not all consumption.

For a diesel, anything under a qt in 800 miles is considered acceptable oil consumption I didn't say ideal, just acceptable, but that small an amount is barely anything
I'd have to agree, either sticky thermostat or bum fan clutch., other possibility loose wire.

or the gauge is just acting up...... that sounds like hardly a change in temperature.

so you have only put 2000 miles on this truck. when did you first get it? if you've only gotten this winter and have yet to drive in anything but cold weather then you cant say for sure if this is out of the normal. i think a guy has got to drive his truck for all four seasons before he can call something like this is abnormal.

my truck has different temp levels at each time of the year for trans, engine coolant, egts, and boost. It doesn't sound like its something you have to worry about yet if its something at all.

Moosestang sounds like it's getting to the point of my old gasser towing rig (why I replaced it), it was using a quart every 50 miles or so

hmmmm.... when I type Moosestang, my spell check in the browser keeps trying to change it to "molestation"
