I received the truck from my nephew in Idaho. They don’t have emissions. i Was concerned because I am in a part of Colorado that actually does tailpipe testing even on 29 year old diesel pickups. With trepidation it took it to the shop For testing. I am allowed up to 35% opacity in the exhaust. Here are the results. I am extremely happy.

That's why I got this old truck. And my old Benz. And just sold my modern SUV.
We don't have emissions testing just yet in my county but I'm sure it's coming soon. But pre-1996 is exempt in the counties that do test now.
That emissions crap is expensive. And even if it is something you can manage to work on yourself then you have to deal with resetting computers and crap. And some of that can only be done by a dealer. Seems like my wife spends $1k every time her car goes in the shop.
I'm done with it.

Here in the big PDX garbage town, for cars it's 1974 and newer have to pass, rest of state follows a 20 year rule. I don't mind working on most cars, usually a breakdown I've found is due to lack of maintenance or preventative inspections. But I also classify it under lack of automotive knowledge.
