Girlfriend looking for an idi. What to do

All due respects...
"it's perfect"...and..."it's mint"...and...it's in"cherry condition". Then when you see it...you get > "well, what do you expect for a 25+ year old truck"
Peoples perception of "perfect" can be very broad.
Wish I had a dollar for every vehicle, boat, Harley, Vette where the owner told me the above.

93 sounds like you have a pretty cool gf, If she doesn't care about the specifications I'd say your best bet for ease of maintenance and fuel economy would be a reg cab F250 with a 5 speed SRW, 6.9 or 7.3 doesn't matter much, neither does turbo or N/A. I'd definitely want to switch it over to the 87 and later glow plug system if it doesn't come like that. I hate the latching relay system for all the damage it's done to members trucks.

She is real great. She wants to learn how to drive 5 speed, so what better way to teach her on her new truck. She dont think she is getting one, but if i can scrounge up the money, i am going to get her one. Even if it needs work, that might be a little better so we can spend time working on "her" truck and i will like working on it cuz its a truck! Kill two birds with one stone. I dont know how to do body work, but to some people, it isn't a problem and they dont mind picking up a rust bucket because they can fix it. I would like to try to learn though. But thanks jd, she is really a keeper, maybe Kas83 will chime in, he is the only one on ob that knows her.

I'm pretty sure my phone bill will sky rocket if both you n Sam have have idi's lol. That would be pretty cool tho, run both on WMO during summer. Definitely pick up a regular cab for her. As good as she took to the bike n quad the other night, I'm sure she'd be super happy with the truck.

Also, don't fool yourself, you're looking for a regular cab project to do a Cummins swap in the future

I think it's cool that she likes these old trucks. I hear about lots of gf's wives that wish their bf/hubby would forget his truck/car. My wife likes my truck( oops, I mean "our" truck. ) but she gets tired of hearing about what mods I want to do. Sometimes she just rolls her eyes when i tell her I'm going to work on the truck.

My girl wants an idi now. She likes the obs fords and likes the sound of mine. I have had 4 now, so she figures she wants one. She obviously wants a decent looking one, so interior and exterior should be pretty clean. I can always repair the interior and exterior if need be. it can be a project.

She likes 70's trucks too. Im asking if i should get a gasser and swap or if i should buy an original idi. Obviously if its before 83 it will need to be swapped but what is cheapest. I kinda want her to have the 83-87 series. Love that body style.

It could be fun to teach her how to drive a 5 speed, nothing easier to learn on than an IDI. Her ideal truck IMO..... 1987 6.9 with a 5 speed, reg cab, 3.55. Least likely truck for you to have to fix due to most of the common 6.9 problems being reduced...no Big C or other 7.3 problems, factory solid state glow plugs. Should get relatively good fuel economy.

Yes to the truck, yes to me helping maintain the 'fleet', hold up on the marriage part for a little while. Samantha is a great girl, I'm just worried she might wanna throw you to the curb lmao.

I don't know if this has been mentioned or not, but get her a later IDI truck with a pretty decent body, but just enough damage to get a spare IDI truck for parts. Then, and this is vital, make sure she knows her truck is "MUCH better than yours and just needs a little work. Having a spare truck is cheaper than new parts."

That way, she has a diesel and you have a parts truck for whatever project you want to to work on.

And (if) that truck was "perfect" it wouldn't be sitting dirty with bad tires on it. Just because it has no rust doesn't mean the Texas sun hasn't killed the paint and interior.
Trust this...if I saw that truck I could point a hundred fingers at it.
True my frame is "rusty" but the paint is fresh with full wet gloss and no dents, scratches or panel rust! With the exception of the drivers seat being dead/soft...the interior appears displays in prime condition with zero fade. Very few have been in the passenger seat and the rear bench has NEVER had a body sit on it!
I would easily put my "cream puff" up against any other 23 year old truck with 195,000 miles on it...that HASN'T been fully restored.
