geeting rid of the oe sensor

would getting rid of the stock water temp sensor and leaving that wire unplugged have any effect on how hot my water temps run. When i put the turbo on i got rid of the t that i had on it because of the wierd ass setup didnt allow room for my aftermarket and stock sensor and since then my water temps creep up on me and the high idle stays on longer it seems. before i could run hard and fast and at the most see 190 and now i see 210 pretty regulary on the highway. I am tryin to find time to swap the t stat as its simple, cheap and easy and i will go from there if i find that this has no affect.

Can't quite follow what you did on the sensor's. If you look at the layout the sensor just ahead of the #1 GP is the temp sensor that controls the Hi idle solenoid, it energizes the Hi Idle until the temp gets to 112*. The engine temp sensor turns the Hi Engine Temp light on on the dash. The Coolant Temp sensor operates the temp gauge. For an after market coolant temp gauge, you could put that in the rear of the drivers side head, there is a 1/2" pipe plug there, that's about the hottest spot by #8 cyl.

i removed the water temp sensor and just put my aftermarket sender in the stock location and left the stock sensor wire unplugged. correct me if im wrong but as it appears in your post there is a seperate sensor that activates and deactivates the high idle so having the stock sensor wire unplugged should not effect anything, right?

having the stock sensor unplugged effects nothing! mine has been unpluged since i got the truck, everything works the same

The sensor that controls the fast idle is to the left of the IP and the temp sensor for the gauge is in the driverside head. Which one did you disconnect?

You said you are going to change the t'stat. There is only one correct 192* t'stat for these engines, get it from a Ford or an IH dealer. The new 203* t'stat P/N is IH 1812314C94 and the o'ring is 1821880C2 . AutoZone now carries the 195* t'stat P/N 4399 $30.

If you don't mind, why is there only 1 correct t/stat for these, ... I just got one from CarQuest ( don't remember the #) and it seems to work OK, but I haven't put it on the road yet, what with fixing 101 other 'little' things with my new (old) truck, ( which is a '92 F-250 /E4OD 4wd) ... for what its worth, I'm also pretty much a 'Diesel ****** ' too, although after the last 4 -5 wks of fooling with this thing, I'm pretty sure it's got to 3rd base, if not actually busted something loose.

i removed the sensor for the coolant temp gauge in the dash and left the wire just laying there i replaced it with my autometer sensor for autometer gauge. i was just worried that maybe there was something about having that wire unplugged that made my coolant temps raise up because they started getting higher when i did this.

The only correct thermostat is the Ford or International one. All others no matter what temp they are will be wrong. The stock unit has no bypass in it and all the after market one do. They will cause overheating.
