What kind of fuel mileage increase do you guys see with a gear vendors?
I've got a "Ranger" overdrive on my T-19 with 3.55 rear, and it cruises on the hwy a55mph at 1500rpm, and 65mph at around 1700rpm.
If I do the 55 mph(pretty hard) I can steadily get over 23mpg(Can. gallon) and if I do the 65 mph with cruise on I average about 21 depending on hills.
On the flat I
can tow my 6500lb. TT in OD, but any kind of hills and it lugs down pretty easy. I don't like to tow too fast either, so rarely go over 60mph, and the truck is just much more happy in 4th at 55 with the load on, and my fuel economy drops to about 17/18 when towing.
The Ranger isn't really all that easy to put in, but allows manual splitting of all gears in hi 4wd and low range(not that you really every do) I got mine off ebay for $700, and had to modify one driveshaft. It is definately one of the best mods I have done to my truck, bar none.
It's not really about the fuel though, it just makes the hwy so much nicer and the truck is so much more driveable. I have no idea how you guys with the 4.10's or higher drive on the hwy for any length of time...
