Did part of the clip break off?
Probably the oring holding it.
Some of them you have to squeeze the end. Just can't remember what ones are like that.

I have front and rear line sets from tank to tsv from my 88, if you need/want them.

Nope at the tank. It was getting a new pickup sending unit piece and probably a tank anyway. I don't plan on putting the hard plastic stuff back. The only part I'm worried about is the fuel selector. I think it was functional so I hate to mess it up not knowing how the lines are supposed to come off for sure.

They just slide off, once the clip is removed. Newer OBS trucks with stainless steel lines require special tool, but what you're working on ain't it. Jasper is likely correct in that the o-ring got stuck and stops the plastic fitting from simply pulling off the steel line. Try spraying some lube in there then twisting the plastic fitting a bit, should break it loose. Then again, sometimes they are so stuck the quick-connect fitting itself comes apart and the o-ring and its retainer remain on the steel line, while the plastic fitting slides off - good news is they can usually be put back together with no ill effects.
Thanks for the replies. I actually found a really good description in my ancient Haynes manual that goes through all the different ford fuel lines and how they are supposed to come apart. It's stuck alright. Shot some WD in it wiggled it around for a while then both hands on the line with all I had and no luck. I guess we will resort to drastic measures. You can about bet, there won't be any of that crap go back on. I think it's going back together with stainless hard line and rubber sections at the ends for flex. I can't start to imagine fighting with this thing with the bed and cab on the truck from underneath. Frankly with the skid plate, I'm not sure how you would ever get to the fuel selector. You can bet it will get reloacated a foot or so toward the front instead of inside the cross memeber. That is just stupid engineering.

Fuel lines at the tank nipples? Odd, once the horseshoe clip was pulled-up mine came right off > and they've been on there since 1988.
With the bed on i didn't think dropping the tanks were all that bad, heck I dropped my rear tank twice (both siphoned dry of course)
Now that fuel-selector valve, I agree it's in a dumb focking location...but you wanna talk about dumb focking engineering > come work under my C3 Corvette where I had to cut-out the Trailing arms, everything about that car is DUMB!
