Ok so in preparation for the rally, I've been holding off on getting the windows tinted. Well yesterday that day came.:D

It was too dang muggy for me to clean up the yard after the tree butchers took down my only shade tree in the back yard, left it for me and also put about 10 yards of mulch in my front yard and not in the back where I wanted it...-cuss

Like I needed THAT project added to the pre rally list...........NOT

Ok anywho, I've parted out a few trucks and have an ample supply of parts stocked to keep the fleet up and running for many a year to come, I pulled out the best looking front pieces of door glass and cleaned em up.

Got the tint put on em, pulled the front doors apart and installed the tint on the quarter glass.

Making a scorcing record at a fine tinting job, I run into a road block.

Dang window won't roll up all the way and feels like it's binding up.:***:

I must have wasted nearly 45 minutes trying to figure out what went wrong till I grabbed the tape measure.

Apparently the 83-86 door glass is almost 3/4" wider that the 87-91 glass.

Yup you can just imagine the look on my face at that point.cookoo

So after accepting defeat and wasting time on tinting windows now that will go in Mater, I cleaned the existing windows and get them tinted up and call it quits to go get the little butts from my folks.

Get em back home and the kids want "new" windows too, so they help clean their fingerprints off the glass and get them tinted up.

They were stoked as was I, cause Goldie is looking dang good.
Now tonight on to the back glass and sound deadening the doors.

Here's a little before and after sneak peek with the headache rack all painted up.

Look familiar Trav?:sly

Wow thats the first I've heard that they were different, I know I've sold people early glass for a later truck and no one has ever said they didnt fit. Now I'm confused too.

I found out another bizarre thing recently. I ordered up some new mirrors for the truck as part of her makeover and found out that 80-89 pickups and 88-91 broncos have a different size bracket arm on the mirror. When I got em and lined em up on the truck the wife says....that ain't gonna fit! cookoo The bracket arm is like an inch or so shorter than mine. I woulda never thought that. I wish I woulda found that out before I ordered em but the seller is being real good about finding a correct replacement sooo we'll see...

Good thing you had another truck to use the new tinted windows on! Goldie looks real awesome with the tint - Nice Job!

So, Ron, how illegal is that tint on your front windows? ;)

Ummmmmmmm very!:D
Wifey already chewed me for it when she saw the truck this morning.
She asked me if my badge would get me out of it. I said nope, it'll just get me more of a chewing cause I should know better.

The fronts are almost too dark for my liking. 5%

The good thing is if I get ticketed for it, I've got a known set of door glass that I can swap back in there in 30 minutes flat, to correct the fixit ticket.;Really

Looks good Ron, When I pick up Droopy I'll leave Big Ed and you can do the windows for me, They need it!

Nice Job!
You would actually lave Big Ed unattended in my yard?:sly

Why wait till I get Droopy done. Bring it!

looking good, just watch anyone else driving that truck.:D i was helping a buddy out by running his uncle home with his car. i got nailed with a fine on his car because his windows were tinted, then he was pissed at me because he had to pull it off......-cuss that was fun.

it does make it look nice though, at least leave it on the rear.

pull the wing window frame assy and you're in. it's that easy.
Speaking of wing window assy's.....
the "wider" early windows use the skinnier wing window frames.
the "narrower" late windows use the fatter wing window frames.
if you change both at the same time, you will not have any fitment issues whatsoever.

If you were a cop around here it would be no problem as most of them have dark tinted windows on their own private cars. They just pull over everyone else for the same reason.

Also if you were a cop around here you could get away with drunken driving. This actually happened one time where a cop stopped a car for drunken driving and the car he stopped was another cop in his own car. The cop let the drunk cop go on his way. About 2 miles down the road the drunk cop gets in an accident. So now the first cop is in trouble as well as the second cop. Gotta love em. That is why there are so many people losing respect for them.

Personally I think whats good for Joe Driver should be good for them also and they should be following the laws just as Joe Driver has to. But to each his own.

two or three small philips screws on the outside door frame where the diagonal part is at. one 13mm bolt on the mid lower part of the door. remove weatherstrip and door panel.
