Im looking at a Locker rear from ford-factroy. Before I buy it, I need to know about the ABS gear on diff. From what I remember its a pressed on unit. Its been a while since Ive seen the diff, and I havent had the cover off my 91 F350 so I cant tell, Im also 2300 miles away from the truck down here in TX... is there anything I need to find out about this posi??? the pics he has dont show the tone ring for the abs, so Im worried.

The tone ring fits on the diff carrier under the ring gear, it is a press fit and has one notch in it so it wont spin on the carrier. As long as the carrier is machined for the tone ring it will work on yours. You can transfer the ring from one to the other.

Sweeeeeet... From the prices Ive seen $125 is a pretty good price, what cha think??? Beats $500 for a new Detroit true trak, and from what I read while back these factory units are rebuildable pretty cheap. Its not for full on 4x4ing, but rather just some tooling around in the hills.

I have to remove my posi and machine a tone ring recess in the carrier. If it cheap, under 200, it is a good deal

The factory Limited-Slip (or as I call it, Limited-Traction) is not a locker - not by a long shot.

My stock LS was in good shape as far as I can tell. It scrubbed tires when cornering on pavement and would fishtail in the rain. But as soon as I got one tire a little bit bogged down in a muddy or soft spot (especially with a bit of a load in the bed) it was game over - stuck - no better than an open diff. :backoff

I would have gone with a Lockright, but that only fits in an open diff case. Swapping in an open diff case meant I'd be buying carrier bearings anyhow. So I went with the Detroit Locker. No regrets... other than I wish I'd done it sooner. :D FYI, the tone ring fit right on too.

u2slow... no regrets with a full detroit locker.. or do you mean the detroit True trac. I talked with a shop here locally and he said since I drive 3/4 pavment currently a true track is good for me... full locker would be too much.

Not the true-trac.... the actual Detroit Locker. :cool

My truck is also mostly pavement. Yes, it will speed up tire wear somewhat. Yes, you do notice it not as smooth as an open diff or limited slip when cornering. But dayum it never misses a beat - both tires ALWAYS turn when you want the truck to move.

The true-trac and other geared limited-slips like the Torsen differentials don't lock fully, so they can still leave you stuck with one wheel buried and the other spinning. Seems a waste to me - especially if you are having it professionally installed - to pay all that money and still not have 100% traction.

I mentioned the Lockright because (compared to the Detroit) its cheaper to buy, cheaper to install, and also gets you 100% traction. FYI, that's what I installed in the front axle.
