well went for a drive yesterday after getting my egt gauge hooked up, and my truck blows black smoke pretty good, so i figured i would see some hot numbers, well driving around on flat ground i got about 350-400 went off the mountain and turned around to climb it, its a 7% grade kinda long mountain too, well hit it in high gear which is 4th gear, egts went to 600-650, couldnt get them any higher than that, held the mountain at about 50 the hole way, i expected some hot numbers considering the way it smokes.

Thats cool! Where is the probe located?

driver side exaust manifold, the third cylinder back thats as far as i could get the drill back, but its right on top of the port so that should be accurate right?

Where is the pyro, before or after the turbo? What was the boost pressure? Black smoke is overfueling. Only 300* rise, something don't seem right.

Got it. You posted 1 minute before I did.

Seems kinda cold, I can get my N/A, stock fueled F-250 in my sig up to 1100 on some small rolling hills here in Huntsville, no problem, and 1000 merging on the interstate is no biggie either. Granted, they aren't lightning quick, but it will steadily get there.

Methinks there might be something amiss. Is this a new gauge?

yea sounds low for N/A, but if it is on those are good numbers. i could easily peg mine to 1000 or higher getting into traffic or some hills when mine was N/A.

That's the right place for the pyro. At 50 MPH,. you were only turning about 1400-1500 RPM in 4th, with about 2 to 5 PSI boost. That about it?

Damn I'm slow, gotta type faster. No turbo, that's about right.

it is a used gauge that i bought off of punk mechanic, he tested it before he sent it, he said it reads about 30 degrees off, 650 is all i could get out of it going up the mountain, it was no problem to get to 600 but it wouldnt go past it and i had my foot in the floor.
