Got the engine fired up tonight. :D but have big noise issues. She sounds like a sewing machine while the cold idle advance is on but after it's warmed up :***: It sounds like the thing is coming apart.

MEL talk to me bout the gear rollover. At 750rpms the engine and trans are vibrating like something is unbalanced big time. But idle it back up to 1000 or greater and it runs smooth. :***:
I think it is coming from the trans cause it seems to be centered there.

I did the Lucky mod to the DMF and have a LUK clutch disk installed.

HELP!

FWIW, gear rollover doesn't occour in neutral/idle.
You are using the "LUCKY" mod ;Sweet and have the LUK single mass friction disc
I heard the rollover on the Lady Moose and Last we spoke, Mel was going to try the synth ATF overfill trick...how much fluid are you running ?

I spoke with the dog catcher and yup, he knows what that gear rollover noise sounds like now Geo! I need to follow up with some of those lubrication experiments, but as of yet I haven't done it. I've got the Lady Moose in the pre-rally service bay right now, so she will be down for a short while I put the gear vendors unit in her, and fool around with the drivetrain a while. However, it wouldn't surprise me if Ron ends up telling me what fluid mod to use.

;Sweet

Thanks a million Mel,
Saved me from dragging the trans out for no reason.....Whew! :puke:
I owe ya one on that  so tonight the testing begins. :peelout
I can't wait to run my "new to me" motor that sounds almost like a PSD :***: As this one doesn't have any loud obnoxious knocks to it and runs like a champ

Back in the Beef and on the road again!

fyi, I think that's incorrect. The following is ZF's troubleshooting guide from ZF's website...

""
Noise disappears when engine RPM exceeds 1500 without depressing clutch pedal.

• Neutral rollover is caused by the engine firing pulses transmitted through the gear set. Some neutral rollover is normal on the 7.5L application. The dual mass flywheel on the 7.3L Diesel and the two stage clutch on the 4.9L & 5.8L should eliminate this concern on these engines.

• Check engine idle quality and speed. A rough or low idle will aggravate this concern.
