E4od code 29

O/d light started blinking the other day so took truck to tranny shop to get code read it was code 29 a Vss sensor. But could it also be a tach sensor because it seems to be acting weird when the truck is cold. Also where is the tach sensor located. Are the sensors ford only parts or can i buy them at a parts store? Any more info about code 29 would be great. Tranny is rebuilt.

1993 f250 4x4 7.3 idi 125000 mi.

The tach sensor is located on the IP gear tower/oil fill, about a 1 inch nut with 2 wires out of it, Ford part only. The VSS is on the rear of the tranny or on the rear pumpkin top side.
