When i was gathering all of the parts for my (upcoming) factory ATS turbo install, I had a few people and sites tell me that I needed to get the turbo model of the Ford computer or the Banks Transcommnd. I was talking to Ken at DPS and he suggested I go with the "Factory Tech" valve body upgrade rather than a computer change. I thought about it for a whole 10 seconds and figured the money was the same, Ken knows a little bit about these trucks so I had him send me one.

According to the guy that makes these, Gregg Evans, this is what it does:
"The FTVB is a complete accumulator re-calibrated for shorter shift duration, which decreases heat generated and reduces slippage and wear on the friction plates. The FTVB is tuned for the chip to leave all transmission settings at stock, if the chip does this it works great, or you can have your tuner return all shift timing and line pressure settings to factory stock, it will work with the elevated line pressure, but using software to control shift duration is bad for the pump and I don't recommend it." Ken has the complete write up on his site.(Look under trans upgrades for late model 'strokes)

I finally got around to getting it installed this afternoon. Man-o-man! ;Sweet ;Sweet Freakin' night and day difference in the way she shifts! Mild acceleration and the shifts are un-noticable. Pedal to the floor and the downshifts are firm and the upshifts hit hard! I can't wait to see what hse does pulling the 5'r.

If anybody wants to wake up their E40D, they need to get one of these!

Sounds great Joe!! If I can be so rude to ask...what was the price of this little gem! Right now I got the mushy takes forever to shifts.

Factory Tech

Eric,
$225. Ken does not charge for a core if you return in a timely manner.

I wish I did this prior to MB, it is that much better.

Better be packing extra U-joints if you like a firm shift under load. I have had problems in the past with F450's and E4DOA's breaking U-joints under harsh shifting. Keep in mind, we're dealing with towtrucks here, but not a far stretch when you are pulling a heavy load.

I ordered it from here

Calvin,
I thought about the u-joints. I drove the truck today to work - like I normally would drive - and the shifts are not even noticable. My first load will be a local campground in a couple weeks. Time will tell!

Do yourself a favor and clean off the u-joints and grease them up good. Also, you might want to think about a monthly inspection of the truck from top to bottom if it is pulling heavy often. PM saves alot of grief on the side of the road.
