05 wont have a 7.3 or a e40d

a 95 would have that, and will mate up, but the psd ahs a 6 bolt tc and the idi has a 4 bolt tc, and there may be a difference in the selenoid pack.

From a 1995 powerstroke should work.

The stand alone PCM from the earlier IDI diesels might not work though since the electronics from the powerstroke transmission are a little different. Could still work, but not sure.

The other option is an aftermarket controller. More fool proof, but also more expensive ($500-600)

Yes, I forgot about the torque converter. Powerstroke takes a 6 bolt TC, IDIs take a 4 bolt.

Looking through my ATSG update manual for the E4OD, it seems that the build eras for valve bodies are as follows:

1989,
1991-1995,
and 1996 up

Maybe I was wrong about the valve body. 1994 and 1995 might be close enough to work without compatibility problems with the PCM. The good news is that the whole valve body can be swapped out even with the transmission already in the truck if for some reason the newer one makes the PCM goofy.
