The soup bowl was given that nickname through the years… But the actual technical name is called a Helmholtz Resonator. Cutting it off won’t help in Peformance… it was designed to dissipate and expend harmonic pulse waves from the engine… cutting it off will only allow less air in. The real problem with this air cleaner is the restriction Plate…that needs to be cut off. It was designed to restrict airflow to dampen intake noise… But in the meantime it doesn’t allow The engine to breathe. The factory “Y” pipe is also too restrictive. Is there any good reason to cut off the bowl inside the stock air cleaner housing?
Or is the better question; is there any good reason to keep the soup bowl? It looks as if it cuts down on a substantial amount of airflow, presuming that is what we want to happen.
