Court order to fix wife's truck, help please!!!

Ok, I had court yesterday and one order of buisness is that the wife's '02 7.3 Excursion quit on her. It showed up on a flat bed later that day. I have a trickle charge on it, the batteries were drained but not dead.

There was a puddle of oil leaking out from the rear of the engine onto the flatbed as it was being dropped off. The cam sensor has been replaced through factory recall, thats all that has ever been done to this engine aside from routine maintenance. 102,000 miles on the ticker.

I have been elbow deep in an IDI but this is my first go around with a 'stroke. I am gathering some info early on as I will not be able to get to this untill Tuesday or Wednesday. I still have to finish my engine swap on the Logger as well so my plate just got a bit more full. Fortunately the judge allowed me to do this and save some money.Gonna hate having to give the Excursion back to her, I know that much

Find the source of the oil leak. It's possible that the oil lines for the turbo have failed and are leaking oil (hoping this is the case as it's the easiest.) The 'Stroke will not fire if there's not enough battery power....it may spin over but won't fire. If you can, borrow a scan tool from one of the parts stores and see if there are any codes.

how much oil was dripped?have you checked the oil level yet?turbo has no oil lines.the turbo pedistal orings leak as well as the exhaust back pressure valve actuater.neither of these will cause a no start.check the under hood fuses.the fuel heater could be shorted out.look for a leaking high pressure oil line if it had a massive oil leak

high pressure oil line fitting at the pump are known to leak. there is a kit for the o rings

A scanner from an auto parts store will NOT work for scanning. There scanner cannot read the codes. I'ts a waste f time.

I heard through family that she let the truck run till it was stalling due to lack of oil, I know this is not good I would say there was a cup full leaking on the wercker bed as it was being delivered.

edit: I believe she did do an oil change since the truck supposedly ran out of oil.

No worries on the running out of oil. The injectors will not fire(oil fired) long before there is a shortage to do bearing damage(almost idiot proof)

I think this is what happened to her again, I hope anyway. There was not a drop of oil on the dip stick, I checked it yesterday. A friend of mine just did the turbo pedestal on his '99, I have a funny feeling that may be the culprit.

well the 99-ups are easier to pull the turbo than the 94.5-97s.hardest part is the V clamp in the back on the collector and wiggling it loose from the collector.id rather pull 10 sd turbos in a day than to pull one 94.5-97

Sounds like it got too low on oil and won't start. I bet if you filled it up she would fire off. Turbo pedestal O-rings are not too difficult of a job, just a little time consuming, takes about 3 hours for me now. Check the non-serviceable plug on the HPOP also, that will leak a good amount of oil. If it is, there is a kit you can get to repair it, not too big of a job either. Those are the most common places for leaks on PDS, in my experience

Also remember that if you put the wrong oil in a Powerstroke, it makes a difference, so ask/find out what oil was added or changed.

If the oil foams at all, it won't run. Powerstrokes require engine oil to fire the injectors, and more specifically, engine oils that have anti-foaming additives. Over time these additives become depleted, resulting in foaming or air in the high pressure circuit required to fire the injectors.

Not as simple as the old IDI fuel system.

Not true. I have had more than one experiace w the oil being "too thick" in cold weather and not allowing the truck to fire. A different brand of oil(the right kind) and nevr had a starting issue again

tell that to the dt530 i had to limp home on hydraulic oil
