If the oil foams at all, it won't run. Powerstrokes require engine oil to fire the injectors, and more specifically, engine oils that have anti-foaming additives. Over time these additives become depleted, resulting in foaming or air in the high pressure circuit required to fire the injectors.

Not as simple as the old IDI fuel system.

This is true, CAT huei engines are really sensitive to this, especially when they are coming due for an oil change.;Sweet...Air in a hydraulic system is bad news, and that is what the stroker injectors are fired with....The CAT's show up with a "miss" from idle....The first step is to see if it's due for an oil change...

I heard through family that she let the truck run till it was stalling due to lack of oil, I know this is not good:confused::mad: I would say there was a cup full leaking on the wercker bed as it was being delivered.:puke:

edit: I believe she did do an oil change since the truck supposedly ran out of oil.

No worries on the running out of oil. The injectors will not fire(oil fired) long before there is a shortage to do bearing damage(almost idiot proof)

Probably the nicest feature of a HEUI system, not enough oil and it wont run. Keeps you from running with low low oil (I think you need to be like 4-5quarts down)

Finished with the IDI, for now:D, onto the PSD. Fresh oil and filter tomorrow if its not raining:angel: There was not a drip on the dip stick, lets hope the leak is my biggest fix.:backoff

worse case is the injectors are junk from no oil.itll shutdown before it causes catastrophic damage but the it can score the plungers and barrels in the injectors.mine popped a hpo line and ran dry,got lucky no damage to the injectors.was smart enough not to try starting it till it had oil in it.by the sounds of things your wife aint that smart since she ran it dry.

The oil is what fires the injector so no oil = no movement which = no scoring

5 quarts later and the thing ws ready to rock. Took about 10 seconds of crancking and it lit off like it usually does. Now I have to concentrate on finding the leak and fixing it. Motorcraft 15 w 40 and motorcraft filter await.

The Logger's clutch petal fell to the floor today so the Excursion will wait till the weekend. I finally am starting to bring stuff to my house to work on it instead of borrowing shop space, feels good to regain a bit of what was once the norm:cheers:

like i said you may want to speak with a rebuilder about that.

well if you know then please enlighten me:dunno I'd be very interested in finding out how a hydraulic actuated injector can score the plunger and barrel if theres no oil to move the plunger:dunno

I'm confused. How the h*ll does a judge have the right to make you repair an ex wife's vehicle; especially after she ran it out of oil???? Give that judge an enema! Of course, it was probably a female judge wasn't it? cookoo

It's proven these pstrokes will run on almost anything but the correct oil is recommended at all cost. Bad batteries cause a lot of starting grief and are probably shot in that thing. Charge them up and maybe add a jump from another vehicle to get it started. If it fails to start on it's own after that I'd look at the batteries for sure.

Best of luck with it all.
