Coolant Filter cut open at 10k miles

I took these pictures the first time i did the water pump. For being submerged for 20+ years the cast iron looked to be in great condition and clean to me.

I could be wrong, but I believe the lack of oxygen helps to slow the rust process.
Look at sunken ships that stay in fairly decent condition.

but oxygen does enter in at the coolant expansion tank. The sodium nitrite is actually what reacts with it to remove it.

Yes, but it's not like you're flowing it through the system. If you were, you would get air pockets and overheating.

Oxygen is soluble in water and glycol. It's less soluble at temperature. One of the reasons to run vehicles up to temperature once in a while if they set or only get short tripped.
