I made a coolant filter out of some cheap head I found on amazon that uses a ph8 fram filter. But I didn't think ahead as to the placement of the fittings. Mine had 2 outlets up top next to each other so I had to add a riser to one side and it made my whole setup way uglier and bulkier than it needed to be with black pipe fittings. It was cheap in that I got the whole kit up and running with a filter for around $50, but I also had to weld up some metal brackets that I bolted off of the fuel filter mount.
Not a big deal but if I was doing it over I think I would go with the typical mod with the napa kit others have posted about. Cheaper than that ebay kit but maybe a bit more than mine.
As far as performance on mine, I got my truck with a blown oil cooler. So I resealed that, got new lines, new thermostat and water pump to start fresh and installed the filter setup. It went through a couple filters in short order while I tried to flush the system out. Must have done a dozen cycles after I put acid in the radiator for a few hours. I used dishwashing soap that doesn't sud, calgon, and some over the counter products.
Finally just a few short weeks ago I started fresh with coolant and a new filter and I like what I see so far. Clean coolant and just a hint of something in the reservoir which could possibly be from me not cleaning it as well as I should have.
I couldn't believe how dirty the water pump area was when I pulled mine apart. Tons of gunk around there and red rtv chunks in the system? I wonder if that could have been original.

but you can do it considerably cheaper than that kit...
