The ends of the front stablilizer bar where it joins the upper control arm in my 82 240D corroded away(under the bushings) left side broke off and smashed the shock. Just completed a 'repair' modification to avoid having to change bar. This was suggested to me at another 'Mercedes' forum. Seemed to go well, haven't got the car back on the road yet to test drive. When I do I post procedure and results if anyone's interested. Check bushings at control arm for wear, maybe loosen up bolt and remove one front bushing to check condition of arm underneath for pitting. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't give the little beast up for anything runs great 200K+ miles loves Bio and strait WVO. My little backyard barbeque on wheels.
