Good evening IDI friends! Found a 4.10 geared rear end in my area, says it’s from a 2000 F250 would I be able to fit this up easily on my ‘86? I’ve worked on a lot of things but never swapped an axle the guys on dirt every day make it look easy… most I can think I would need would be a different drive shaft and/or yoke setup… anybody have experience with this? Disc brakes would be nice along with towing benefits of 4.10……

You will need different rims for the rear. Though they are both 8 lug, the spacing is different.

Pickup axle/spring perch spacing is the same between 86 and 2000. Overall width grows a couple inches. And yes, the bolt pattern changes.

If you are changing the yoke/flange, get a crush-sleeve eliminator beforehand. Also, your old yoke is incorrect for the newer diff. Brake biasing/effort may need to be addressed switching to disc (i.e. prop valve, MC, hysdroboost, etc.)
