Guys I have been going into research overload, engine casting design, crank specs, connecting rod specs, IP specs..........
Here are some of the things that I have found out:
DB2 pump, is fantastic, this thing may be able to dethrone the almighty P pump. in stock setting it can deliver 40hp per cylinder, simple math telling us that with a motor opened up and flowing and turboed, you can get 320hp at the crank with stock adjustments. That can only make me think that a tweaked pump can do a ton more, that means a Moose pump that can deliver 30% more fuel could power 426hp roughly.
Next, our bottom ends are super solid, just insanely tough. the block has 1.26" bosses throughout and the head bolt locations are directly into these bosses. We may only haf 5 head bolts but after some ARP studs I can see these heads holding upwards of 50psi easily depending on CR. The crank is forged from stronger steel than a cummins motor, the connecting rods are forged from a single steel billit, which means the rod and the end cap have their grains all in the same direction so strength is uniform in both pieces.
we do have some draw backs, our heads and our cam. The heads , just like our blocks have more material than in needed, there is a lot of PnP that can go into them and still leave an extremely stong head, with the valve seats and seals that were used, even in stock trim these things will keep from cracking. With some oversized seats and machining for larger seals, they may be indestructible.
That leaves the cam and I found a solution there, not to take away from type4 or anyone else regrinding but, pick the RPM you want power in, from low end to top end, go to CraneCams website, pick a style and lift combo that you want or go with a style and lift package that they offer, tell them what motor you have and you will get a custom ground cam for your 6.9.
Ooops, I forgot the weakest link in the chain, the pistons, our pistons flat out suck, thats all there is to that. We have a short deck height and our pistons are short so that IH could still get a good stroke length from such a short deck height, no piston oilers, and of course they are flat tops. I havent started tracking down pistons yet, I am sure there is something out there pistons come in all shapes and sizes.
Well, thats where I am at so far.
Just because I cant get it out of my head..............the DB2 is awesome and can really be pushed!!!!!!
