Can you keep your cool?

Diesel owners are always looking for ways to build more power and torque (as well as help slow you down!), but keeping everything cool is important in getting the maximum life from your diesel engine.

Gauge kits have always been a great way to keep an eye on the critical temperatures and pressures that are the vital signs of your powerplant. Generally, the cooler things are running, the longer they will last - diesel owners have known this for many years.

The turbocharger is probably one of the hardest working components on the engine, and looking after it will maintain the best performance for power and cooling. Modern turbochargers are amazing technical achievements that endure extreme temperatures and stress loads while requiring only minimal maintenance.

Turbochargers are cooled by pressurized engine oil pumped through the lube circuit to the turbo shaft. The high operating temperature of the turbo depends on fresh cool engine oil to stay cool, lubricated, and minimize wear & tear.

When the turbos are working hard, the turbine wheel/shaft can see temperatures over 1000F. At switch-off, lubrication to the bearings/shaft stops INSTANTLY. Unless special precautions are taken, this may result in thermal distortions to the shaft or housing. Excess residual heat will create varnishing of the oil on the shaft, leading down the road to premature turbo failure.

The BD COOL DOWN TIMER (CDT) is a great way to address this situation. The CDT is a stand-alone unit that monitors the EGT's before it shuts the engine down. This 'idle-down' time is critical to allowing the turbocharger to cool off, and allow the turbo shaft to get to proper lubrication. The CDT hooks into your ignition system and will continue to idle the engine - even though the key is turned off and REMOVED!

This way you can turn off the truck, (lock the doors), and walk away knowing your turbo will cool down properly, and you won't have to waste any time monitoring the pyro gauge, waiting for it to cool off.

The CDT will continue to idle the truck until it reaches the pre-set temperature that you select, -OR- after 5-minutes of idling -OR- if you touch the brake pedal it will override the timer, and shut the engine down immediately.

The CDT will work with any k-type thermocouple, and can be used with an existing probe (such as those with the X-Monitor or pyrometer gauge). Simply hook the CDT to the existing probe connections.

Don't take chances with your investment. Diesel engines and turbochargers are expensive to rebuild/replace. Insure your truck will get the proper care it needs, no matter who is driving the vehicle.

These kits are IN STOCK and waiting for you to call!
