Well my trusty steed took a dump today.... I had loaned her out to a buddy (Scott - he is the one that helped with the Midwestern Oilburners Event last year) of mine to take on vacation and he was pulling his trailer down in Greenfield, IN just about ready to pull out for a week in Kentucky - pushed in the clutch, grabbed the shift lever moved or attempted to move to 4th but she wouldn't go... so he tried to shift back into 5th - no go... Moved back to neutral and let out on the clutch - she was still in 5th gear... So he motored on down the road until he got to a stop light *red one at that* pushed in the clutch and had to pull over... Called for backup (only a couple three miles from home) had father in law bring out rescue vehicle. So FIL brought out Scott's Durango (which just so happens to have just gotten out of tranny shop this week - new TC and valve body) to move trailer back to his house. Scott was able to slip the clutch (no trailer attached) to limp her down to gas station and pull her off to the back of the lot.

Had Scott talk to his tranny shop and they are going to tow her in and get back with me next week with results of what is wrong.

I guess it's not too bad since she's got 247k on the clock...

So I'll be borrowing Scott's little Neon for a couple of weeks until my Nanny Goat is out of the shop...

Man this just isn't my day ya know....

So I called my nephew that is a mechanic (one that plowed into car on motorcycle) and he said that more than likely it's a shift linkage or fork problem - said could be a syncro but doubts it... But he said that more than likely once they get in there that I'm gonna have some money in the situation... I'm keeping in mind that the truck only books out at 6 grand so a newer truck might be in order... But I'm not going to jump just quite yet...

I borrowed my buddies 99 Quad cab and man I love the rear doors and the access they offer... Man that was schweet...

We have suddenly gotten a bunch of Dodges w/ serious exhaust systems running around town. Not sure if it is just 5" or if they straight pipe 'em, but man they sound....

Well Mark the tranny guy called yesterday and he said that he's gonna have to go into the tranny to find the problem he said that it has to be totally inside... this I think is gonna get costly....

So here is what is rolling around in my mind...

what all is different or is needed to shove a 6 speed where my current 5 speed lives.... I figure that since my buddy had to drive it a little ways in 5th gear (2 dead stop take offs) that clutch is a gonner so... I know that the later trucks used a larger clutch / flywheel set up but other than that it should be a drop in correct or is the tranny longer (move crossmember and shorter driveshaft)

Haven't had much time to actually post this but here goes...

On Friday my buddy called to see if my truck was done - I told him I hadn't heard from the tranny shop so he said that it was along his way home and he would stop off. Then a couple of hours later he called and told me to pack the camper and not the tent...

I told him that I needed to call them and make payment. He responded with nope didn't need to. I said well that might be ok with you since he knows you but he doesn't know me from the man on the moon and there is no way he is going to let the truck go without payment and I don't blame him... Then my buddy said "there is no charge to you, I paid for it" so I said ok how much and I'll bring ya the cashola... He said don't worry about it - I owed you some money for the fireworks display at your house so we'll call it even. (we did have quite the display up here - we flat rocked the 'hood)

Ended up being less than 200 clams including the tow bill.

It was a spring on the internal linkage - they had to remove and crack the case open to get at it. The tranny guy said that the inside of the tranny looked like it had 10k miles on it - said that it should have a ton of miles left in her... Then my buddy asked if they test drove it and the guy just smiled and said yep - that truck is not stock.

My shifter now feels like a different truck - it's no longer sort of sloppy in the shift pattern - it's more precise - very nice...

So I'm a happy camper - and I got to sleep in my TC for the weekend so Turned out to be a pretty good Friday the 13th for me.... Then on top of that the guy camping next to us at the campground asked me about purchasing our TC - I told him I have to use it in 2 weeks then it will be up for sale... he said that he will be interested and I'm to call him when I'm ready... Just an overall good weekend...

That's sweet. I always love hearing good news like that. Are you gonna replace the TC with a TT?
