My 83 6.9 has started to need to have the air purged out of the fuel filter before starting all of a sudden. It already has an electric pump from the tank to the filter. It did fail a while ago and I replaced it with one I had that looked identical. The starter also piled up at the same time due to cranking it with no fuel so after I put in the new pump I just bomb started it till I just replaced the starter. Now I’m finding the air in the filter issue. Is there any way the fuel is bleeding back to the tank due to a check valve or something. Maybe the pump that failed had an internal check and the new one doesn’t? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Amazon sells fuel rated check valves (various sizes). Get a couple, move them around the system until you isolate the air intrusion.
