wouldnt an air fuel guage be almost the same as a pyrometer .you figure the richer the exhaust the hotter it is also it is much cheaper than a pyrometer .
i mean sure when accelerating it goes richer but if your cruising and it stays rich you know that the egt's would be hot
its not as accurate but maybe a cheaper way out

think of saving $100 by purchasing an air/fuel guage over a pyrometer. your guesswork ****, and you just melted the pistons in a $5000 motor. ouch.

that gauge would measure the air fuel ratio by measuring the amount of oxygen in the exaust, not by temperature. and a good one would be more expensive than a pyro
