ACCELERATOR CABLE QUESTIONS

Lately, I have had my accelerator-cable to FREEZE, both in the driveway and going down the road, whenever the outside temperatures are below twenty-degrees.

After numerous attempts with heat-guns, WD-40, etc., and still having freeze-ups, I completely removed the cable from the truck and hung it up behind the good old sheet-iron stove, where it's about two-hundred degrees, give or take.

After a long hot hanging, I saturated the inner sleeve numerous times with WD-40.

Now, it is getting HOT machine-oil poured down through the insides, until it drips freely out the bottom end.


Now for my question.

Since I have the whole cable out, I have taken all the possible measurements and recorded them in my notes, for future reference.


While I was at it, I figured to also write in the correct part-numbers for a replacement, should I ever have cause to need that information.


The longest overall measurement of my factory-original cable is shy of 36" and it could stand to be a touch shorter.

All the replacement cables I have found are 42.625 long, much too long for my truck, without putting a loop or an ESS in it.

My truck is a manual transmission, 1985 F-350 Diesel.

What gives on the too long cables ??

Is the shorter one available anywhere ??


The one I have is fine, I just like to jump these kinds of hurdles before I run against them in a pinch.

when i changed mine carquest had the most options avaiable in length 35 39 and 41. no parts on there web site, have to call them to get part numbers
