97 PSD 5 spd Trans problems!!!!!!

I have a 97 f-20 heavy duty with 5 sped trans.. when i got the truck it has always raked when shifting from 3rd to 4th,But the last 3 weeks it will not go into 4th gear unless you completely stop. I changed trans fluid (This is a manuel trans) and this helped for about 75 miles then it went back to not going into 4th gear again....any suggestions before i start looking for another tranny??? as always any input will be greatly appreciated.....Thanks,

I dont know if this has much to do with it but did you put ATF in it not gear oil? These manuals need ATF and are supposed to use synthetic.

yes i used atf fluid.....i guess i'll just start looking for replacement....

What does "raked" mean? Do you mean it grinds when you try shifting into 4th?

If you can shift it without using the clutch (rpm matching) you have a serious synchro issue.

yeah it grinds but it wont shift like you mentioned, thats what i thought at first then tried shifting by rpm's and no go............

I am just guessing, but that sounds like your synchromesh is gone for that gear.
