the f450 zf has a deeper first. that is the only difference in the trans.I thought I read somewhere that the F-Super Duty ZF5spd had different gear ratios then the standard diesel ZF 5spd.
I like my F-Super Duty.

f450 frames are clearly different from all the other trucks. will post pics later.
and yes, once you worked a f450 IDI truck, you'll never go back. except for me due to smog rules in kali.

you'll love the dana 135. you'll hate the zf6. put in a trans temp gauge or you'll really hate life when the trans lube cooling pump takes a **** and burns up the main gear cluster set.

only difference in the frame is the 450 comes in cab/chassis configuration only.wich means they could be ordered in different cab to axle lengths.if the truck was still around id show you a half f350 pickup,half f450 car carrier.

From my research there are 8 different "ZF-5"s depending on gas, diesel, GVWR, and year.
Nah those newer superduty trucks aren't as tough as the F-Super Duty!!
As much as I love old iron, the new style superdutys are beefy beefy trucks. Frame, brakes, cab, power, ect, the new trucks win no question.
Necessary on my 6.4L however

The frame on a true F-SuperDuty is damn near twice as large and thicker than a cab and chassis F-350. I'm talking about the frame rails themselves. Along with it is shaped differently to accept the L-brackets for the hangars and shackles. Had a F-SuperDuty and a F-350 sitting next to each other for a long time while I was thinking up projects with my 93.

yall need to look closer.the 450 frame is not thicker or bigger.they are the same frames

I'll have to look at the 96 Superduty tomorrow. I know the earlier diesel zfs(s42) had a 4:14 1st gear and the later diesel zfs(s47) have a 5:08 1st gear. Does the later zf s47 had a even lower 1st gear like a gassers 5:72
As for the ZF6 i dislike the tight shift pattern and how they shift in general. I have had one already. I like a ZF 5 The ZF6 needs some work as it sits right now. It pops out of 4th sometimes

i can't say i have a clue one way or the other,but im noticing that some people (not all) are thinking "pickup" f350 as comparison rather than the C&C f350.
those sure look much different of course as ones flat,and the other ******.this is throwing a couple people off i see.
do you suppose the f350 C&C's came with two thickness sized frames depending on the wheelbase?
perhaps the shorter(same length as pickup) c&c's came with smaller frames and the longer wheel based f350 c&c's sport an f-superduty frame,thus why some are claiming they are different? hmmm.
can't wait for the pics to come now.

the cab/chassis f350 and 450s frames are also ****** over the rear axle like the pickup frames.one thing i did forget is the cab/chassis trucks use a different rear fuel tank.the c/c trucks dont have as much frame hangin off behind the axle as the pickups do.add an a little bit to it and you can use a regular rear tank out of a pickup

i sure know the rear tanks are different.
i went after a poly rear tank,and the guy said it came from a pickup.
i got there and it was a little square thing.man was i mad lol.
drove an hr one way to get there.
i looked 'em first so i knew to ask about pickup or c&c first.
man i ell ya,some of these salvage yard guys are clueless about their parts.
they all want the sale.budd rims,rear tank,and rear axle were all nightmares this year.god.lol.
even when asked specifically for a certain part.all wanted to make the sale,regardless if they knew for sure or not.lucky i did at least twice lol.****** got me on the axle though.
everyones out for number 1 today.getting good honest help/parts is getting harder and harder.
thank god we have sites like this to really learn things.

look at the second picture,you can see the frame hump starting at the front spring hanger.wish i had the money for it.super clean truck!!
