70's highboy dana 60???

Well I have a dana 60 4 sale close to me and it is on a 70's ford f250 highboy. Havn't went to look at it yet. Are the leaf spring perches wider or narrower. I measured my truck and it measured 36 1/4" on center. Also I've heard some of these trucks used a heavy duty dana 44. How can you tell the difference? I think I can get it at a pretty cherap price. What do I need to look for or will it even work?

This subject has been done to death here lately.....

As a direct bolt in NO the axle will not just drop in place without substantial work. The short side axle is too long and pushes the pumpkin into the crossmember unless you notch it.

The second issue is that the frames are a different in width so you'll have to redo the spring pads location.

The third issue is how the steering is controlled on the style of axle your getting. Pre 77 1/2 use an arm connected to the pitman arm going for and aft on the left knuckle if thats the style of axle you'll end up with having to create a cross over steering setup. Plus you'll have a Low pinion axle if I am not mistaken

I found the info I was looking for after I posted the thread. Sorry about that. I got tired of searching and just figure I would ask. I was looking for the spacing differences on the leaf springs but found them on pirate4x4.com. Thanks anyway.

Also the vast majority of the 70's F-250 "Dana 60's" are actually Dana 44's. The Dana 60 was part of the "Sno-fighter" and "camper special" packages in 1977 and 1978 only. All other F-250's used the Dana 44.

I even have a 77 F-250 that appears to have the plow prep (front end sat higher than rear) but it still had the Dana 44.
