7.3 IP blown.....???? help!!!

I just bought a 92 f350 7.3 with a 5 speed manual trans. it took the truck a few cranks to start in 40 degree wheather and then when it started it ran choppy until i gave it a little throttle. i just thought it was a bad injector and i didnt worrie about it cause i planned on gettin new stage 1s from dps-performance soon anyway.

about 3 days ago i had it runnin in my yard and it started to stutter then it shut off. i tryed to restart it but nothing. i switched to my rear tank and yet again nothing. so i put it off to the side for a few days thinking i just ran her dry.

i thought about it and said what the hell, if the truck is out of fuel mines well turn the pump up like ive been waiting to do. i took the side cover off and fuel went everywhere(AS IT DID THE FIRST TIME I TOOK THE COVER OFF) so then i toom a hose and stick it in my front tank and there was fuel in it and then i put it downb the rear tank and it was empty so i put some more fuel in..... and nothing. i had my dad watch the pump to see if the pump rotated when i tryed to turn over the truck.

the pump does not move when i try to start the truck.

im lost i dont knwo what it could be. anyhelp?

You sure the pump is not turning? Do you have fuel to the injectors? Try cranking them and see if they seep when you crack the nuts that go to them. Since you have drained all of the fluid off of the pump, you will probably have to have several tries. If you are sure you are not getting the pump to spin, you need to pull the cover off of the front side (oil fill) and see if the gear is spinning.

i took the oil filler cap off and marked the gear. it is spinning im just not gettin any fuel.

The gear will always spin but the pump can break the internal shaft too. It really sounds to me like you just ran it out of fuel and now it needs to be bled of the air as posted above. There is a bleeder valve on the fuel filter head. Crank the motor till nothing but fuel comes out of that shrader valave but don't crank longer than 20 seconds. If you crank for longer than that the starter will burn out. Let the starter cool for maybe 2 minutes and crank again. Hold the injection pump wide open so more fuel is going to the injectors and crack open some easy to reach injector lines at the injectors. When fuel is leaking out the injector lines you will have enough fuel going to the injectors for a start. This takes time because the injection pump does not push much fuel to the injectors. It really is difficult to see much fuel dripping off the ends of the hard lines at the injectors. Remember there is as much as 2000 lbs of fuel pressure at the injectors. It will cut you and if it gets injected into your body... Well its been nice talking with you.. Diesel fuel and the internal body don't get along at all.

The sound you hear when it starts may just be the way its supposed to sound... Is this sound on a cold motor? If so the cold advance is working properly. It advances the fuel untill the motor reaches 120 degrees. Then it quites down some. Or it could be the rpm is set too low. Glad you have it running and the fuel tanks usually all break off the pickups internally so they all run out of fuel around 1/4 tank. Don't allow this to happen all the time. It will ruin the injection pump because the fuel being pumped thru it lubes it and also cools it.

Sounds like the timing needs checked.

it ussually does it just when its cold. and my rpm might be down it says its idling anywhere from like 300-just over 500. i thought it was just the tach goin bad.

Save your money and just get stock ones. Or wait for the Moose injectors!

Do a search for DPS, I believe you'll find what you are looking for. Also check out the Moose injectors, there is a pretty good discussion about the DPS stuff there as well (I'm sure Mel would rather me not send you there to get negative info about DPS, but I think you'll find why?)

For most it's the lack of customer service after you get your parts (that's if you actually get them). Then there's the lack of quality of the modified parts. You can make your own set of so called "stage 1" injectors by grinding off the tips so the fuel just squirts out like a fire hose (rather than the controlled atomized spray that should be used). You might make a bit more power but you'll lose a lot of MPG. Better to use stockers, turn up your pump and enjoy.

Do a search and start reading about everyones experiances. There have been a few that are happy with them, but most that bought them have replaced them with stockers and thrown the DPS' into a drawer.
