7.3 id head studs

Hey guys, I did a search for 7.3 idi head studs and I found this. It is a quote from icanfixall.

The ARP studs that fit our 7.3 motor are part number AR7.00-1LB at $8.45 each without nuts or washers. They are about 1/4 inch too long but they fit fine. Both Typ4 (Russ) and I are running them. They are 200,000 lbs psi where the new Ford head bolts are only 153,000 lbs psi breaking strength.

Well my question is, I looked on the ARP website and couldn't find those head studs. Where did u guys get them from.

I can't answer your question, but unless you are running 15 PSI or more, head studs aren't really needed on the 7.3 IDI. Just my $0.02

I no I'm hitting about 10-12# but I want to hit about 15#. That would be ideal. I just don't want to blow my head gasket.

Its just as Russ posted. These studs for our motors were not designed for them but they fit. They are 7 inches long and about 1/4 to 3/8 inch too long. What happens being longer than needed is the stud is sticking out thru the nut so far that the threads touch the deep socket and will iterfere with final torque. Maching orr or grinding off the top threads will stop this from happening and you will still have enough hex for installation. Do not remove any of the bottom threads thinking that would lower the overall length of stud in the motor. That just wont happen because the studs fit into the block a specific way. Shortening them in the block will only cause you to loose some of the clamping force. Not a good thing. The top of the thread past the nut is doing nothing for clamping force so loose that and all will be fine. Or be very careful when torqueing.

Thanks guys I appreciate your input. So the stud number that I need to ask ARP about is AR7.00-1LB? They will know from that number which studs I need?

The only stud that comes close they make is 7 inches long with 1/2x13 threads on the bottom and 1/2x20 threads on top. Some of the customer service reps have no idea that they have this stud. I never found out what this stud was made for. I did drive up to ARP and talked with their two very good engineers for about 2 hours on studs and application. They told me a customer that had a twin turbo psd motor was breaking the intake manifold bolts. He asked them to build him studs that wouldn't break. So lika any good engineer they asked what boost pressure he was running...... Around 250 lbs + or - just a little bit....:eek:

Thanks. So I'll have to do a little bit of digging when I call the ARP representatives. I can't believe how much boost that guy is running. That is crazy!!!! I have never heard of anyone running that much boost let alone that much boost on a Powerstroke. The most boost I usually hear of is around 150 psi, That is just nuts. I wonder what his truck dynos at. I bet a dyno couldn't handle the power it makes.
