I'm not following how dirty oil and needle bearings wear more than dirty oil and bushings? Sorry but that makes not much sense to me.

Then again I don't make much sense either...ROFL.

I'd be suspect of dirty gritty oil and a bushing long before a needle bearing.

Needle bearings are like rock crushers compared to a bushing bearing. I'm thinking this is special double speak from the seller. Both bushing and needle bearings have their plus and minus but why did International stop making or using them. Now some gas engines have needle bearings on the camshafts instead of bushing bearings and some engine have needle bearings instead of rod and main bushing bearing. but those are full out race engines like Porsche and a few others.

I was under the impression they like to use roller bearings for builds unless it is just a crazy all out build and really high spring pressure but I dont really know which is better.

My position on wether bushing or needle. These engines don't turn 8K to 10K RPM or even 5K like a gasser or Hi performance engines do. The valve spring pressure on the OEM IDI is only 189 lbs.IIRC. If you'd put 910 springs in then, don't know what the pressure is, then you might consider the bushings. I do know that a buddy of mine used to build Hudson Hornet engines for sprint car racing, he wanted to put in roller cam followers with needle bearings, so I had the toolroom at Ford make a set, it added IIRC ~ 50 HP on dyno test to the engine.

Bill did the hornet engine go from flat tappet to a roller bearing tappet. If so thats where the hp gain came from. Any roller lifter reduces the rolling resistance drag so more freed up hp is gained.

Yeah Gary; that Hornet had the flat tappets (cam followers). you can't believe how much smoother and quiter that engine ran. Old George is 93 now. For his 85th birthday a guy let him race in the small S-10 and Ranger class. He would have won but a truck tried to wreck him at the finish line. He placed 3rd. George said that was one hell'va birthday present, but it cost me $585 for race suit and helmet.

Edit: Ain't gonna say what Georges buddies did to that driver, wouldn't be nice. Not that George couldn't take care of himself, he was one stronge bull.
