has anyone seen these its about time gm cought up to ford with the 4x4 they are pretty sweet trucks
They are nice, but kind of massive for their payload.
Looks like a 5500 4x4 19,500 GVWR with a 11' dump on it might be legal with a 4+ ton payload. I looked at one speced-out on a dealer's lot. They weighed the truck after it was built. It was 10,700lbs empty, so the payload was only 8,800lbs.
My concrete contractor has a new F-550 4x4 17,950GVWR. He has showed me weigh tickets empty of 9,500lbs. He has a legal payload of 8,450lbs.
Less than the 5500 4x4, but not much less (350lbs). Considering the size of both vehicles, you'd think the 5500 4x4 would carry a lot more weight than the puny F-550 4x4.
Something tells me the 5500 might "handle" the weight a bit better. It has 245/19.5's versus Ford's 225/19.5's and bigger sway bars.
The frames are interesting: GM utilizes a big single frame rail, while Ford was using a doubled, but smaller height frame.
The 5500 suffers from extremely low ground clearance under its' rear differential. I'd guess 7 inches.
They are really neat lookin trucks with 4WD.
