1987 hard to start and running rough

i have a 87 ford 6.9l it has starting problems and yesterday i started it to go to work and it started smoking a white ish smoke and was running weird i checked the radiator and no change so i drove it a few miles and came hone and no change to the coolent that i coude see . i just need a hand trying to figer it out couse i just bought the truck not long ago.... need parts help if any 1 can thank of any thang

Pull the engine oil dipstick and check the engine oil for milky white stuff. Also, check along the side of the block, any evidence of leakage down the side (would indicate head gasket)?

oil is good and i put it in the shop for them to mess with it
