Another lift pump lets me down.

My original return line was leaking behind engine and turbo at or near the tee(s), so I deleted it and instead ran a hose from IP around the side of engine down to frame hard line. The front driver's side injector tees into this line. Its maybe not optimal because return fuel from the...

Head gasket i had water shooting out the overflow hose took it apart between the 2 middle cylinders the hesd gasket got real small holes why

I know nothing about these head gaskets, but just from the pic It looks to me like that is just the metal substrate which has holes in it from the factory and the covering gasket material has worn away.

    Transmission Hell

Wow, that's quite a story. sad tale. Max Mini hasn't posted since Mar 30, a month and a half ago. I hope that means the issue has been resolved.

New to me f350 what to do

    1. Keep a good battery charger on the batts. If truck has a block heater, plug it in. Try again the next day after batts are fully charged up and best if the day is nice and sunny/warm. (assuming no glow plugs or block heater). While cranking, it is best to have jumper cables from...

New to me f350 what to do

yes, those rubber seals can be replaced. do a search for "olives" here on the forum. They can be hard to get out of the hardline though.... I burned mine out with a torch, and picked out crusty remnants. That said, if you are getting fuel at an injector, you should be close to getting it...

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

yes that's correct. The truck would run fine and strong once started. But getting it started would require bleeding injectors if it sat even overnight. might be related. Another thing to check is if there is air coming from the fuel tank. I'd suggest putting clear hose between the fuel pump...

Injectors without o-rings... do any exist?

Well the hard line thread is well above the hole that would be tapped, so I guess I don't see the problem there. I agree its not good to leave injectors untorqued. It might be better just to route hoses however they end up. wouldn't be so pretty. Regarding leakers, I recently had two that...

Injectors without o-rings... do any exist?

yeah, maybe enlarge the hole a wee bit and tap. yeah, might be cleanest to have a barbed manifold for each side that all four lines go into. yeah, not optimal. maybe set the torque a few pounds light, then keep going enough to make it align, I dunno. Perhaps could be a good little business...

Injectors without o-rings... do any exist?

So I was looking a bit into how return lines work on other diesel engines of the same era. On the Detroit 6.5L, the injectors have two metal nipples that a return line hose just slips onto. Some hoses are made that don't even require clamps. All injectors have two nipples, so a cap is placed...

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

Update: I'm calling this issue resolved and returning the truck back to service. Finally! After sitting 24 hours it will now fire up after 1-3 seconds of cranking. I haven't left it sitting for many days yet, hopefully that will be fine too. In the hopes it can help somebody else, I will...

A question for Injection Pump rebuilders and experts.

Ok thanks. Perhaps they did it when installing the Banks Turbo. I wonder if that is/was recommended by Banks.

easiest method to blocking off hole in the back of the intake.

While you are at it you might consider moving the return line tee up to the front of the engine. That's what I did and it makes it much easier to work on and check for leaks. Any connections back behind the turbo are a pain to access once the engine is installed.

A question for Injection Pump rebuilders and experts.

Actually I just bought that exact one last night off ebay. They are cheaper elsewhere, eg $11, but then they tack on $25 shipping for a part that could be sent in an envelope. crazy. I started this thread for two reasons: 1. To get some info/advice before just throwing money at the problem...

A question for Injection Pump rebuilders and experts.

Yeah I'm hoping to hear from people with more experience. From what I've gathered googling around.... On the one hand, removing it eliminates a possible source of failure that can lead to stalled engine. On the other, apparently it also drops internal pressure by 4-6 PSI, which can actually...

yeah I blew some air through it just to clean it out. blows either way no prob, as one would expect for an empty tube.

A question for Injection Pump rebuilders and experts.

Ok, I have some pics. 1. Location. Top of the IP. Underneath the barbed hose fitting, which threads into the check valve. 2. The check valve, removed. Notice the front nozzle appears empty (no glass ball). 3. I can see light through it. No spring, no ball. From reading a few threads...

I found this comment: So if mine is missing the ball (as it seems) then this could be a contributor to my hard start issues after sitting.

In case it wasn't clear, this is the outlet threaded into the top of governor housing. It can easily be removed with the pump fully mounted just by removing the outlet hose. So anyone can inspect it, not only pump rebuilders. :-) I just figured they would work with it regularly.

I didn't think to shake it. Doesn't it strike you as odd though that I could see right through the valve? I would think the ball should be in the center...

A question for Injection Pump rebuilders and experts.

Calling for help from those of you that have rebuilt one of these IPs! I need info about the IP outlet "Fuel Return Regulator Housing Pressure Fitting". Ok, so some call it a "check valve" but apparently it is supposed to regulate IP fuel pressure somehow. Anyway, I'm referring to the IP...

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

Update: I performed most of the mod as described a couple posts back. I wasn't yet able to install the tee that joins the injector returns to the main return line from IP. That's because I need a 5/16" by 1/4" tee and nobody local carries them. I thought for sure Ace Hardware would have it...

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

If you haven't already, I'd suggest installing an electric fuel pump first thing and installing a block-off plate where the old mechanical pump was. This will bring benefits (shorter crank times) even after you've found/fixed the air intrusion issue. Second, with a flashlight perform a visual...
