THANK YOU! I had accidentally pulled the wire off that goes to the temp sending unit, after you said "behind the thermostat housing" I was able to find it, and now my fast idle is working!!!! the engine sounds decent! but now to fix the oil leak and ticking >.>
I didn't touch the pump, but I would like to know how to time it as timing probably has to do with it. it sounds more now that I think of it that I accidentally pulled a wire or something and it won't do high idle it tries to idle at 500 RPM right after start. anyone have a good idea of what...
I did my injectors and return lines, no fuel leaks. so after doing those things I start it up and it still blows white smoke BUT now there is a knocking coming from the gear case in front of the injection pump AND it idles like el crappo. when I get on it it runs decent though :confused:

well I'm pretty sure I've got a bad lifter, only ticking/ knocking when warmed up since I put thicker oil in I'm gonna take off the valve covers and check so with the top end of the engine apart I should be able to see and take care of any leaks I'll update as needed
10-4 thank you guys for the quick replies, I'll update post this weekend. I'm doing injectors/ return lines and glow plugs with the intake off I might be able to see any leaks better, I think it's leaking WAY too much oil to just be the CDR

SO! I've been searching and searching (noob to IDI's) I have one G-narly oil leak!
it is leaking from the rear top of the engine, I thought it was valley pan or return line from my turbo but it's getting all over my rear two driver side...
I'm leaking like a silv from around the rear driver side injectors, it's oil as far as I can tell. thought it was maybe the valley pan but now chicking out the CDR and turbo return line =(
took the truck on a 200 ish mile maiden voyage, it did GREAT! I recorded 26.5 MPG on the way down:sly which sounds high but the whole trip cost me 26 bucks and she's full again!;Sweet then I douced the engine in degreaser in hopes of finding out the oil leak source
