    Engine Oil Analysis In... Coolant?

Sodium is an additive in many oils. If your potassium is also elevated, that is cause for concern. I only have a rudimentary understanding of all this, so I don’t know what would be considered normal for the specific oil you are using. It wouldn’t be a terrible idea to send off a sample of the...

So what did you do with your truck today?

I can vouch that they won’t. And while I’m very rarely an active participant, I still love watching what y’all do with these trucks, and the new guys coming in with new projects. By the time I get another, might have a better idea what I’m doing!

    Traded in 1991 F250

Think they’ll put it on the lot? A lot of times they get sent straight to auction after trades. I’m on the wrong side of the country and not looking, just curious

Looking for Some Sage Wisdom, 85 F250, 6.9IDI

In the past it’s been stated on here that the factory oil pump is better than anything aftermarket. I can’t personally speak to this, but may not be worth a change if it checks out.

Looking for Some Sage Wisdom, 85 F250, 6.9IDI

If you’re going to pull both heads, recommend pulling the engine. The time save getting the work done, and frustration, are worth it.

    6.9 or 7.3?

I don’t know how current some of these are. But might help: https://www.oilburners.net/threads/timing-service-registry.70126/

1986 T19 clutch grumble in neutral

I had a truck, looked an awful lot like that one, and it made that noise. Sold mine down in Florida but it could be anywhere. Motor painted Ford blue? Edit: Doesn’t look like it in the pics, wishful thinking I guess. Anyway, here’s my thread on the noise. Tons of good info from great people...

    Wire Harness Re-Wrap Materials/Tips

The basic cloth tape I use inside the cab that is similar to stock is just cloth friction tape from any hardware store. But I don’t think it’s under hood temp rated and I only use it to bundle/protect wires that are already insulated. Looks factory when done though, and the adhesive is very...

    Water separator?

Yeah, there is a NAPA unit that fit in the stock mounts on my truck. Probably the same one.

Anyone running Jet A with stanadyne mixed in on their 6.9

I can’t speak for these motors specifically, but the military runs JP5 and JP8 in just about all their diesels. It isn’t exactly the same as A (5 has a higher flash point, not sure of the other issues), but most of the aircraft can run those and A. I bet someone will chime in with details why...

    Buying a VW TDI--Questions

I can’t help on what to look for, but depending on price, the buyback cars are back out there and come with a warranty. I doubt most of us on here need a warranty, but it’s still nice to have. I’ve heard Passats are still out there to be had direct from VW

So what did you do with your truck today?

That’s a really nice, clean interior (from what I can see). With a proper gear shifter. Big fan.

    Finally! 97 4x4 12 valve

I hope you find a deal cause that truck is too nice of a package. Those trucks don’t tend to stay that nice - motors sure, but not whole truck

Sticks at 1500rpms and Black smoke when pulling my tractor

I wonder if timing alone won’t make a big difference for you. It just might fix it

    Finally! 97 4x4 12 valve

Nice looking truck! Even the perfect ones have stories to tell be interested to see what you find once you get into it

Sticks at 1500rpms and Black smoke when pulling my tractor

If the hose collapses when you give it a lot of gas I suppose it’s possible, but that hose as it sits wouldn’t be the issue. The intake piece it connects to isn’t messed up restricting flow is it? Although if it didn’t act this way post fire but pre fuel system work, then none of this was/is an...

    Project Big Red

I’m about halfway through re-reading your build thread (you just got it started in that thread haha), partly because you’re teaching me a lot, and partly because it’s just cool to read. This post had me confused for a minute haha. Great to see it going strong

    commercial 7.3

If you get it going right this is a cool project. Lots of those 5.4 250s out there and while those motors are plentiful, this sure is gonna be a rugged setup

    $8000 for a conversion

That conversion, and then it ended up on a dealer lot... hmm. Plus obvious signs it wasn’t well cared for and that some of the work was half-a$$ed... I see a lot of reasons to have second thoughts. Plus you posted here. Don’t let the desire to have a truck with that motor (which would be sweet...

    Tempted by Newer Truck

I have no issue with the 6.0, but if it’s all stock at that mileage you need to be prepared for the cost of bullet proofing it. And the cost is basically an idi truck. It isn’t if it needs egr, it’s when. If never tuned you *might not need to stud it, but you still might. They can be very good...

Buying 85 IDI ATS turbo motorhome!

The flip side of this is that a reputable shop will still only charge book hours, even if it took them longer to do the repair. Slower mechanics or newer ones will often take longer than the book, whereas experienced guys will do what you said and thus generate more hours and pay for themselves...
