Thanks guys. Here is a picture of the case spreader that I built. There are 2 short pieces of 3/4" bar stock welded on the underside to fit into the holes on the housing. The carrier popped out pretty easy. I also had better pry bars this time around, so I might not have needed it after all. I...
While rebuilding my front suspension i thought it would be a good idea to change the leaky inner axle seals on my D60. I tried running a rag between the ring and pinion gears to pop the carrier out (a trick I read about on another forum that I do not recommend) but it it started coming out...
That is assuming that the crossbar is a 2" tube. Here is another link showing the same kit with the hitch, and it looks to me that the biggest it could be is 1 1/4" square tube by 1/4" wall thickness. My truck weighs in the neighborhood of 7,000 pounds. Your calculator would call for a 2x2x1/4...
I am thinking about getting a rear shackle kit from PMF with a mounted front receiver hitch and possibly with recovery hooks.
Here is the link: http://www.pmfsuspension.com/OBS-RSK-SD-Spring-Hanger-Conversion-Kit_p_13.html
I am concerned about the strength of the crossbar that the hitch...
I'm using a 4" Diamond Eye muffler. It looks just like the Walker Big Truck Muffler pictures that Laserjock posted. It is pretty quiet. I wouldn't mind if it was slightly louder. But then again, my truck is stock other than the 4" exhaust with a 3" turbo outlet and downpipe.
I bought mine at Peterson's Trucks for some outrageous price. Rock Auto has them for a lot cheaper but even paying for expedited shipping would probably be a lot cheaper than what I paid at Peterson's. I've heard that the set with two green o-rings lasts longer. Also in the tech section there is...
How important is the insulation on the up pipe and down pipe? It seems like I don't see it often. It looks cleaner and is easier to work on without it.
I used a floor jack and the bottom of my trucks frame to press it together. With a couple of 2x4s and my kid holding everything on alignment, we got it together. One side was tougher to get on than the other but I don't remember which one.
One of my tubes was so plugged up with scale that I...
My transmission was stuck in 1st gear when I got off the freeway yesterday. I didn't notice if the OD light was blinking or not. I didn't even know to look at that until I started researching today. I bought a code reader and its throwing code 92 which means a problem with shift solenoid 2. I...
The motor has 285,000 miles on it. Digital odometer, so no roll over to worry about. The IP has 85,000 miles on it. The truck came with a lot of receipts for work that had been done to it. The injectors are brand new/rebuilt.
I retarded the IP 1/8" and the motor is running a little quieter but still knocking. I can only hear the knock at idle and just above idle. At higher engine speeds there is no knock. I also bought a stethoscope and can hear the knocking through the valve cover but not though the oil pan. I hear...
So I cracked each of the injector lines and the knock did not go away. But on the number 8 injector (closest to the firewall on drivers side) it did seem to get quieter but not fully go away. This makes me think that it is a rod knock since there would be less load on the rod without that...
So the sound is definitely the loudest through the oil pan. Is that where I would hear an injector knock from? That's what has me worried that it couldbe a bearing. I was very careful about keeping the injectors clean.
i just replaced my injectors because the motor was making a ton of noise. I also put new return lines. The motor runs a lot smoother but it is so quiet now that I hear a knocking sound that I couldn't pin point before. I'm afraid its a rod knock at the rear drivers side of the motor. Here are a...
For whatever reason I can't find the sticky on this. Knuckle head I guess.
I read somewhere that synthetic could cause leaks on the seals. Anyone ever have that problem?
I like that finned cover!
Thanks to this sight I just learned that I have the Sterling rear end with 4.10 gears and limited slip in the rear and a Dana 60 in the front.
What weight of gear oil should I put in? I know that I'll need to put an additive for the limited slip. Since the rear is limited slip is it safe to...
Thanks for all the input. I didn't know that the coolant should be low silicate and I already put the SCA in it. Now that I saw FORDF250HDXLT's post I went back and took another look. The pink additive is definitely not mixing with the green coolant. It was spilling out while the truck was...
