Cruise Control Quit after Hydroboost Conversion

BTW every PSD we own has needed the hydroboost replaced. Getting spendy these days. Furd product blurb says it's good for only 150k miles "Durability tested to meet 10-year/150,000-mile service life specification" YMMV as they say

Cruise Control Quit after Hydroboost Conversion

We don't have a 93 here but our older Fords do use vacuum for CC. The CC isn't by wire, it actually pulls the accel linkage, and uses a vacuum diaphragm to generate needed force. So if you closed off the vacuum before it got to the CC unit, voila there is your problem.

Building a TIDI from a couple motors plus new parts

Progress report and questions about TIDI rods Reminder on the project: I bought a TIDI with freeze damage to mate with a low-miles IDI that has cylinder wall perforation. Together I plan to make a healthy sleeved TIDI in a clean 89 XLT Lariat for my daughter's daily. It took months to find a...

Failed swap, SRW Aeronose axle into DRW Bricky

Good idea. We have a 1999 E350 passenger and it has a D60 in the back. But I think it would take a D80 to match a Sterling in strength for use a Bricky dually. It's a 2wd truck so he doesn't have to worry about matching the front. When you say cubevans and Dodges, which ones do you mean? I do...

Failed swap, SRW Aeronose axle into DRW Bricky

Yes he wants to stay DRW, for sure. He has a custom flatbed on there.

Failed swap, SRW Aeronose axle into DRW Bricky

When a pinion is longer I think that means that the distance between its bearing surfaces is longer. Pinion walk on older Sterlings is due to the inner and outer pinion bearings being too close together. which eventually allows wear so the pinion is no longer aligned perfectly under load. The...

Failed swap, SRW Aeronose axle into DRW Bricky

Or @Ferdy Mint could look for a long-pinion DRW axle with 4.1 gears in it, and swap in the whole carrier from his donor 3.5 axle. It's time he learns how to set pinion lash and all that fun stuff anyway.

Failed swap, SRW Aeronose axle into DRW Bricky

A couple of my sons spent hours yesterday trying to swap a long-pinion SRW Aeronose junkyard axle into a DRW Bricknose. The goal was to upgrade to long pinion and change gear ratio from 4.1 to 3.5 ratio. @Minty Ferd never tows and rarely carries more than a round bale of hay in the bed. And he...

94 Fort pickup XLT dash, HVAC, steering column

We stripped the cab of a 1994 parts donor truck and have no Aeronose to put this nice XLT dash in. It has a couple cracks in the front pad but not the top. I believe LMC has the pads for sale. The instrument cluster is for an E4OD. We also have the steering column for sale (no pic of that)...

Building a TIDI from a couple motors plus new parts

I saw the donor block today. Passenger side forward piston is gone, in pieces. I hope that rod is OK. Forged steel vs cast aluminum. I bet it's just fine. We'll spec it. FYI, here is all that's left of the donor truck. A 350 frame, long pinion Sterling, front suspension, and a clean dually bed...

    Stranded

Ah, the android trap. No sigs displayed there. Must be your 92. Say, did you say showerhead? I have yet to see one on an OBS. Must be the later years. We only have one non-parts Aeronose and that son does all his own wrenching, is a pro. SD showerheads are good for only 10 years in my book...

Building a TIDI from a couple motors plus new parts

OK guys we're into tearing down the freeze-damaged TIDI donor block now. Death and destruction, shock and sadness. Feast your eyes. My son is doing the teardown at his shop, I will go gander it with my own peepers today. But it looks grim. Hopefully all rods, crank, and most pistons are good...

    Stranded

I didn't see you post what year your truck is, and whether 430 or 445 cid. You could put that in your profile. The 430/6.9 dual tank system is junk. I know a former Furd dealer service manager who says it was junk from the factory. We remove the switch, the front tank, and run either a deep...

Building a TIDI from a couple motors plus new parts

I noticed that Moose Diesel has an IDI crank for sale. I wrote to ask if it's TIDI or IDI. See their answer below. Others here in the forum have held that a TIDI crank has different counterweights and a different harmonic balancer. Can anyone set this issue straight? Are TIDI and IDI cranks...

Riff Raff boots, entire set and T bolt clamps

I just got them Friday. They are beautiful things, made in the USA. I chose blue. I have no idea what they would cost at the Ford stealer. Certainly a lot more. The plenum reinforcement rings is a great idea too. I don't know that aftermarket plenums are worth considering anymore. They are so...

Harbor Freight diesel compression test kit, useless?

We tried this kit on a 7.3 IDI last night and the adapter doesn't get tight, the hex head top starts hitting the head. Only 150 psi generated, with all the leakage. Has anybody managed to use this kit? I got in on a blowout sale so I'm not out much money. The doc says it works with 6.9 and 7.3...

How to set the timing on your 6.9 or 7.3 IDI and how to buy timing equipment.

Our first IDI since coming back to the US in 2017 was a 1986 F250 430 cid atmo with 250 or 350k miles on it. The PO was a diesel heavy mechanic and he said he advanced it by several degrees. This guy was so big that his hands were like baseball mitts. Once we got an electric fuel pump in it and...

6.9 in a bus needs radiator. Upgrades?

Sounds like you have a big budget. Let me be the stool in the punch bowl and suggest that a 430/6.9 is not for you. I'd just let one of our vendors here build you a healthy sleeved 445/7.3 TIDI with a big IP and aftercooler, add bigger radiators and by that I mean all of them, and rock n roll...

6.9 in a bus needs radiator. Upgrades?

Yeppers, watch those skinny stock head bolts if you turbo your 430 cid (6.9) because my understanding is you may have problems. One guy out here, I think, drilled and tapped his block so he could run 7.3 heads and those bigger bolts. Studs would be even better of course, I bet he did that and I...
